Well, February 12 marked the completion of the contracted work. Now it's time to put things back in place and add some decorative elements. Here are some before/after photos to show the contrast:
The bathroom:
BEFORE (this space would be closed up with a new wall and the powder room would become a full bathroom with shower; the entry door will be about where the bi-fold door closet is)
| AFTER (looking in through the new entry; the long wall of the shower is the newly created wall) |
The kitchen:
| BEFORE (original to the 1977 house with the exception of the floor and range; window looks out on gravel driveway and carport; ugly fluorescent light) |
AFTER (the kitchen now looks out on the scenic wooded acreage and invites conversation between cook and guests; dimmable LEDs throughout; open shelving is used for items used everyday)
New ramp entry:
| BEFORE |
| AFTER (The ramp is really nice for bringing firewood into the house. Grandpa likes it, too.) |
Formal entry:
| BEFORE (loved the parquet floor, but hated the truncated view; visitors had to have directions to the bathroom: "Left, then left again.") |
| AFTER (the new view draws visitors into the house; bathroom location is more obvious; flooring changed to laminate, though preserved in living room)
White Ash:
BEFORE (White Ash logs from our yard a few days before the portable sawmill showed up.)
AFTER (Above: Floating vanity; Below: Open shelving)
